WELCOME TO SUMMER READING 2026: PLANT A SEED, READ
Summer Reading began as far back as the 1890s as a way to encourage school children to read and use the Library during their summer vacations. Now, the tradition continues to inspire a lifelong habit of reading for kids and adults alike! It provides an opportunity for family time, helps children keep their skills up, and draws in reluctant readers (of all ages) through fun activities. (American Library Association).
FAMILY PRIZE DRAWING:
- How to enter? When an adult registers for the Adult Summer Reading Program, there will be a check-box that will automatically enter you into the Family Prize Drawing. An adult must log one book, and a child must read 200 minutes to qualify. One entry per caregiver/child team.
FOR ADULTS & HIGH SCHOOLERS:
Find your motivation and have fun meeting your reading goals this summer! Pick up a paper reading log at the Library, or log your books online: cslibrary.readsquared.com (starting May 26).
- Participation prize: log one book to earn a prize.
- Weekly random prize drawing: log a book within the week and be entered to win a trip to the "book cart" and pick out a book to keep!
- Grand prize basket: each book logged = one chance to win the Kindle prize basket!
FOR CHILDREN:
Come to the Youth Services Desk to pick up a reading log! For every 5 minutes read, your child may mark one shape on your reading log. At 200 minutes and 400 minutes of reading you will earn a prize. At 600 minutes read, you may take a book home to keep. Additionally, for every 200 minutes read you will earn one automatic entry for a Prize Basket Drawing. Prizes will be available from June 9 to August 10.
Everyone is welcome to participate in Summer Reading, must be a CSPL cardholder to win a grand prize.
