Conversations on race

Resources for life-long learning

June 5, 2020

Dear Community of Carol Stream,

We are sickened and saddened by the death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers in Minneapolis. Violence against minorities, racism, and hate have no place in our country and cannot be tolerated.

One way to overcome and battle against racism is for all of us to continue educating ourselves on these topics and to learn from one another. The Carol Stream Public Library is proud to serve a diverse community. As a neighborhood center for lifelong learning, our librarians have put together a list of resources that we hope you will find helpful in learning about how our nation’s history has shaped current events and to help parents and caregivers regarding the topics of racism, diversity and violence. We hope that these resources will help our community learn and grow together.

We encourage you to share with us any additional resources and/or titles that will further enrich our collection. If there is anything that you think that the Library can do as an organization to help in any way during these challenging times please email me at swestgate@cslibrary.org.

Very truly yours,

Susan Westgate, Library Director
